ANNAMARIA

As
an eighteenth-generation Santa Fean, AnnaMaria feels a profound
connection to the culture that sustained her lineage. Proudly
Hispanic, she wishes to evoke the sound and mood of Spain — the
Moorish rhythms of Andalusia.
AnnaMaria
began studying guitar when she was four years old. As an infant,
after her favorite bedtime stories, it was Segovia’s music that
lulled her to sleep. She grew up performing with children’s
troops devoted to Hispanic cultural expression. At eleven,
AnnaMaria had an experience that would forever change her life—she
performed in her first opera, Santa Fe Opera’s 1990 production
of La Boehme. AnnaMaria fell in love with opera. Hearing the
difference in vocal ability that the discipline of training brings,
she desired the ability to use voice as an instrument. At twelve,
AnnaMaria found herself in St. Peter’s Basilica singing Ave
Maria to Pope John Paul II while secretly praying for a career as
Carmen.
Acknowledging
at an early age that her life’s joy and future was music,
AnnaMaria devoted hours and hours of her free time to serous study
of instruments and voice. AnnaMaria realized that the music
lessons she desired were unavailable within the traditional school
system, but were available to university students. She was faced
with either having to give up her dream or create an opportunity
for herself.
Underaged
and dyslexic, AnnaMaria determined to complete high school and
obtain the high school diploma that would give her passage into
higher education. She set a personal goal of changing her life
before her 14th birthday. While working on obtaining her high
school diploma, AnnaMaria launched her career as a professional
solo guitarist, performing in museums, major galleries, hotels and
restaurants, for audiences including such dignitaries as the
Vice-President of Spain and several governors of New Mexico. At
fourteen AnnMaria entered the university with plans to enter
conservatory.
Juggling
academics, performance, and running Musica Mundial Productions,
she completed her BA, Summa Cum Laude, in Performing Arts at
eighteen at St. Mary’s College of California where she was given
the Louis Le Fevre Award for outstanding scholarship as a
performing arts major. Upon graduation, AnnaMaria returned to
Santa Fe to perform the Concierto de Aranjuez and complete her
third album. At nineteen, AnnaMaria is in the International Who’s
Who in Music and Musicians’ Directory, Classical and Light
Classical. She is half way through graduate school.
Preferring
compositions that border classical and flamenco, she combines
discipline with passion, offering a collection of moods and
melodies.
