ED BECKER

"The Lamb Jam brought out a lot of new talent to the warehouse. The most captivating, no doubt, was Ed Becker" - Graffiti (The Christian Artist Newsletter) "Ed's words and music open hearts to the Word that might otherwise remain closed" - Msgr Thomas Wells (Pastor) Sometimes I think I'm the only contemporary Catholic musician who doesn't own a Peter Paul & Mary record... - Ed Becker
I think what makes me different from most contemporary Catholic musicians is that I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin and Van Halen while most other Catholic musicians I know have album collections full of stuff like Peter Paul & Mary. For me, music has to be intense and passionate. Even a slow ballad should be powerful. Rock'n'Roll is not a spectator sport. I like to get everybody into it. Some quick background stuff... I had been in and out of a lot of basement rock'n'roll bands that never got far from the basement, and was recording a secular rock CD, when the pastor and the youth director approached me about putting together a new music ministry for a youth mass. I had been involved in music ministry from the time I was 7 in different choirs and folk groups, but this was a chance to break away from the typical folk group sound and put together a real band! Only problem was, a few years ago, in the Catholic Church, folk music was all there was - and some of it was really bad! So the youth minister convinced me to start writing some new music. The response was great, from the teens, the pastor, and even some of the older members of the congregation. It wasn't long before people from other parishes were coming over to find out where they could get this new music! At that time I stopped doing secular music completely and began writing a new more intense style of Christian rock that went over big with the youth group and young adults of the parish. Soon copies of basement demos were circulating all around the area. Now, after years of great experiences playing these songs for congregations and audiences all around the Mid-Atlantic Area, I have both a Contemporary Liturgical CD ( "What Precious Love") and a Christian Rock CD ("For Sinners Only"), I'm getting distributed nationally by DiscipleMusic.com (Cool site -Check it out!), and I even have my very own website! God has been so good to me! The best part of it all is the conversations after the shows, the letters, and the e-mails that show that somebody was touched in a way that brought them closer to Christ. There is nothing more rewarding. If you think Jesus came just for those "saved" and "holy" people in church... I would like to invite you to open your Bible and read Mark chapter 2 verses 15,16,&17. And while you're here at the website, check out the Lyrics page of "What Precious Love".
