GERARDO

‘If you are ashamed of me before men, I will be ashamed of you before my Father in heaven.’ These words from the Gospel of Mark burn in the heart of Gerardo, a singer, songwriter, producer, and evangelist, poised to burst into Contemporary Christian music.
A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Gerardo’s life was changed radically at a high school retreat.  That weekend marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to love and serve Christ.  No sooner had he returned to school on Monday, however, than he was called to put that commitment to the test.
“I was being ridiculed for my faith,” recalls Gerardo. “By the Grace of God I was able to stand up for Jesus and say ‘I’m not going to change.  I’m not ashamed of who I am, and I’m not ashamed of my faith.’” Since that day in 1981, Gerardo has dedicated his life to spreading the faith through his music and evangelization.  Passionate about music since childhood, he studied voice and guitar in college, forming his own contemporary Christian band and playing in several other local bands, including that of famed Tejano singer Selena.  While recording his first album, Gerardo became frustrated at the lack of quality recording engineers in Corpus Christi.  Never one to sit and wait for someone else to solve a problem, he enrolled in engineering school, graduated first in his class, and found himself in great demand as a producer and recording engineer in his hometown.  In 1988, Gerardo packed up his skills and headed to Nashville, determined to hold onto his Christian values, and within two weeks was working fulltime in the music industry as a producer and recording engineer.  During his stay in the Music Capital of the World, he worked on projects for major Christian artists such as Carman and Petra. Gerardo diversified into audio for film and video, commercial jingles and a variety of other musical genres, but his roots remained firmly planted in contemporary Christian music.
Gerardo opened his own studio in Corpus Christi in 1996, splitting his time between Texas and Nashville.   The studio and the arrangement both proved to be great successes, allowing him to spend more time with his ailing father yet retain the relationships he had built in the industry.
His evangelistic skills don’t stop at music.  Gerardo is a powerful speaker, teacher and preacher in fulltime evangelization ministry.  He has developed several evangelization programs, opening entirely new opportunities for winning souls for Christ.
Gerardo’s strong desire to build up the Body of Christ within the church led him to found B.O.C. Ministry, a multi-faceted ministry that includes providing contemporary praise and worship for conferences, Gerardo’s own recording label, as well as production and engineering services for other Christian artists.
Gerardo’s rare combination of experience, talent and courage in contemporary Christian music and evangelization, and his passion and obedience to Christ have come full-circle, resulting in an unwavering and powerful worship experience.
