DAVID VOGEL
David's
music career has taken him from the first folk mass ever
celebrated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1967 to working on tours
with secular bands like The Little River Band and Grand Funk
Railroad. David's shining moment was to be recognized as a
Catholic musician and to win its top honor for the 2002 Rock Song
Of The Year at the 3rd annual UCMVA Unity Awards in Washington D.C
This year David was nominated for eight Unity Awards including
songwriter of the year and Rock album of the year. As the
moment arrived and David's name was being announced by
Catholic musicians Angelina and Mike Beloud from the band RISE,
David did not appear from the audience but instead swiftly put on
his suit jacket and quickly walked from behind the main sound
mixing board. David is not only a very gifted musician , he is
also a fabulous sound and light person and his night also included
providing and being in charge of the sound and recording
production and all the hard work that it in tales at this years
Unity Awards.
David's favorite moment of receiving his award was being able to
thank God for all He has done and also being able to thank his
parents for giving him his first guitar and taking him to St.
Mary's Church to sing with it and for their unconditional love.
Since we first started playing David's music on Sacred Heart Radio
it was evident that his original songwriting craftsmanship and
wide range of vocals not to mention his ability to play the guitar
as well as
anyone we've ever heard and could tell it was from many years of
hard work. As some Catholic musicians take their music career as a
part time job. David's music career is his full time love. David's
love for the Lord is probably the biggest reason for his success
as a musician. When listening to David sing you can tell that he
is over come by the Holy Spirit.
After spending sometime with David you would think he is your long
lost family member his honesty and humility and his genuine
love for others is so evident. After talking to David for
sometime he let it slip that he was actually nominated for a medal
of heroism for rescuing two people from a burning building some
years ago, another great example of how his thoughts are always
with others before his own.
David's other ministries include protecting the un-born
child for which he wrote the song "Cry Of The Child".
His other ministries include his work with youth and adults in
correction facilities through out the U.S. and his work with the
homeless, which you can probably find David playing his music out
side of a football stadium near you raising money for their
benefit.
